JimLiedeka.comA place for things that have washed up against my mind and stuck. It may be mostly flotsam and jetsam but there may be buried treasure. |

Site NewsJuly 17, 2008 I migrated everything to a new box. I realized that there is a lot of junk that's out of date here. I'm planning to re-do the site in the near future. I've got some DIY articles planned and I'm mooting a blog or CMS to organize things. Nov 5, 2005 I finally changed the OS to Ubuntu. It will be easier to maintain without having to remember more than one way to install software. This fall or winter I will be adding new content and perhaps some bells and whistles. Mar 16, 2005 I'm planning to take the site down in the near future and switch the OS to Ubuntu linux. The ports DB is hosed and I haven't been able to fix it. Plus, I'd rather not have to remember two set of commands for keeping things patched. I like FreeBSD but if the packages are screwed up, it's not worth maintaining. Mar 15, 2005 Using new domain name: jimliedeka.com. Feb 6, 2005 Running under FreeBSD 5.x now. It's cool to be current. May 2, 2004 Finally got the server back up. We're now running FreeBSD 4.9. I kind of like using the stable version but FreeBSD is a lot like Debian. The unstable version is still more stable than most other operating systems. January 27, 2004: This site is all static content. It's already a bit of work to go through everything and give it a more consistent look and feel. I've thought about using some framework like Velocity. The only issue there is needing Java. I'll want Java eventually but the BSDs do not seem to be ideal Java platforms. The only source you can get that doesn't need a linux binary is pretty dated. That's tomorrow's problem I guess. Today I have to clean up the mess. January 26, 2004: I'm working on re-organizing the content. Anything deemed dated or lame will be moved to /dev/null. In theory, I should be better equipped to add new content. I've got some coffee roasting articles, some computer articles and miscellaneous rants needing to be written. |
